About THe Project
We are a team of A-level students who plan to launch our payload by weather balloon to the upper atmosphere during winter 2024-2025.
Our payload is expected to record video footage of the launch along with other data such as temperature and GPS to track its flight. The payload will be designed to be recoverable after the flight and the equipment still usable.
We aim to capture images of the curvature of the earth and the darkness of space before the balloon pops, and the payload is returned to earth.
PROGRESS
Documentation
Budgeting and documentation of our progress is very important, as well has having strict deadlines and showcasing our progress to the public. We plan to create a video of our launch which will be accessible to sponsors, as well as having their logo printed onto our balloon.
Design Stage
Or design will consist of a high quality camera, temperature probe, and GPS tracker connected to a raspberry pi as the brain for the payload. We plan to communicate with our ballon with a radio transmitter that should allow us to know its precise location via the onboard GPS.
Balloon Launch
We plan to launch the balloon in the early months of 2025, this date could change due to weather forecasts. Our aim is for the balloon to be launched and come back down with minimum displacement, for easier collection.
Sponsors
Sponsorships
If you would like to sponsor our project contact us with the email below. All sponsor's will have their logo printed onto our balloon and will be given all data and video footage recorded by the device.
